Capdepera – beauty in the northeast

Everything in Capdepera breathes history and this historical awareness accompanies the tourists at every turn. To reach the castle complex, start by walking along the Placa Espanya and climb the more than 150 steps to reach the battlements that have been restored and restored. For centuries, since Roman times, over the Moorish occupation, during the Aragonese conquest, and even into the 19th century, it served the authorities as a strategic point. In the meantime, although there are no signs of the dwellings that once sheltered here, the late Gothic chapel of the Madonna de la Esperanza is open for tourists. Even today, Our Lady of Hope is the patron saint of the inhabitants, even though it has long since ceased to be used as protection against pirate attacks. Also worth a visit is the governor’s house, which now houses a museum reminiscent of the art of palm leaf weaving.

View of the ocean and more

However, on the highest platform of the municipality of Capdepera you not only enjoy a historical time travel, but also get a wonderful panorama: With views of Menorca, about 75 kilometers away, the vastness of the Mediterranean or the Mallorcan countryside with its lush green valleys and hilltops you can see the true beauty of the Balearic island.

Enjoy nature and peace

The northeastern Capdepera is – despite some strongholds along the coast – by far not as touristy as the towns in and around the island’s capital. Here vacationers can relax and enjoy the nature and the silence. For the adventurous and ambitious traveler, the short drive to the Cala Rajada is recommended – there are many tennis facilities, but also boat and catamaran tours. But especially golfers will get their money’s worth in the area around Capdepera. In total, there are three golf courses in the immediate vicinity of the luxury domiciles: Capdepera, Son Servera and Canyamel, the latter being one of the most difficult and challenging courts on the island.

Crystal clear water at lonely bays

The beach landscape on the coasts of Capdepera differs from the miles of beaches as you find in Alcudia. However, these are easily accessible by rental car, as the city is connected to the main road C712. Capdepera’s beaches are more for the adventurous and the romantic: small, enchanted bays with crystal-clear sea water, surrounded by dunes or rocky hills and rarely open to tourists. We recommend Cala Mitjana, Cala Torta and Cala Font Celada. The last one can only be reached by foot, but you can enjoy the fine, white sandy beach almost alone after four kilometers of hiking. If you like to snorkel, you will discover a little paradise here.

Incidentally, art lovers should definitely take a trip to Casa March. The garden of the controversial banker Bartolome March Servera is not only fantastically beautiful, but also in possession of 43 contemporary sculptures, which were lovingly integrated into the garden.
